Textiles: More Than Words Can Say

March 13 - December 15, 2011

Main level of the Museum

The Dufferin County Museum & Archives main exhibit for 2011 features a wide range of textiles specifically selected from the Museum’s extensive textile collection. Handmade fabrics such as coverlets and woven blankets represent the pioneer period. Examples of Victorian to Contemporary fashion certainly will prove that everything old does become new again. Fashion accessories such as jewellery, fans and shoes strengthen the exhibit. Quilts and hand hooked rugs represent the skill and artistry of our local residents from 1860 to 1960. For collectors this show is a must see and includes literally thousands of textile and textile-related artifacts. Dufferin Piecemakers Quilting Guild’s Northcott Challenge Exhibit

April 24 to August 28, 2011

Lower level of the Museum
The Dufferin County Museum & Archives is pleased to be exhibiting the Northcott Challenge Exhibit on loan from the Dufferin Piecemakers Quilting Guild. The Northcott Challenge was part of the Dufferin Piecemakers Quilting Guild show in October 2010.  Northcott Silk sponsored this challenge by donating three bolts of fabric which was then made into kits with three fat quarters of the fabric and sold to members.  Entrants had the choice of entering a quilt in either pieced or applique category. Quilters were to use all three fabrics with the addition of other fabric. Quilts could not exceed 160 cm in circumference. Prizes were donated by Cobwebs and Caviar Quilt Shop and the show Co-convenors and awarded to the top three quilts in each category.

Mary Light's Northcott Challenge quilt, Tweeters, took first place in the appliqué category.
