27 May - 21 August 2011

Come join us! Discover what contemporary textile and fibre artists create when they look to textile artifacts from the late 19th and early 20th centuries for inspiration.

The Dufferin County Museum & Archives (DCMA) in partnership with local artists, volunteers and sponsors are pleased to be presenting a major juried exhibition of contemporary fibre art pieces – Stitches across Time – from May 27 to August 2, 2011. It is our hope that by using beautifully made artifacts from the museum’s collection as the inspiration, people will come to see present day hand-crafted textiles in a whole new light! This show is an art show! Here creativity, technique, colour, and design combine in ways that reflect the workmanship and design sensitivity of 19th century women at the same time as they illustrate a 21st century sensitivity to art, design, and materials.

The show, Stitches across Time, opens on May 27, 2011 and runs until August 21, 2011.

A number of events, workshops and lectures are being planned for this time. Visit the individual sections on this website for complete details or get the full brochure here.

Stitches across Time and corresponding events are being organized by members of the local fibre arts community and the Dufferin County Museum & Archives.
